Oats Detox Chemicals

[HEALTH] PFAs (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a large group of human-made chemicals, also known as forever chemicals because they persist in the environment and break down very slowly. Some may take up to one thousand years to entirely disappear.

Due to their applications in everyday consumer goods such as cleaners, cooking pans, nonstick fryers, clothing, and carpeting, PFAs have made their way into the human body, where they can also take an exceedingly long time to break down. They were present in 98% of blood samples tested. Not only are they stored in the human body, but they have also been found in the brain and are linked to a wide range of health conditions. Yikes!

The good news is that a recent study shows that oats are the body’s best friend in excreting PFAs because they contain a beneficial compound called beta-glucans. Beta-glucans are also present in mushrooms, seaweed, and barley. Be sure to choose organic!
