(2025)If you follow political news on the daily, you'll find yourself wide-eyed at the edge of your seat, stuck on a roller coaster under a dramatic and dangerous regime. We have unofficial people, including teens, gaining access to our treasury department, trade wars, the dismantling of the constitution, proposals to seize control of the Gaza strip, plane crashes, bigotry, and basically the literal destruction of whole US government sectors, one by one, including the Department of Education. Our democratic constitutional republic seems to teeter on the edge of an autocracy or an oligarchy. It's alarming to consider what our country will resemble in a few months, a year, or four years? Each hour of every day is filled to the brim with activity - issues that might be resolved within the week or ones that might reach a more critical point in that period. It's tough to gauge sometimes. One thing is certain, this political climate is leaving us all with our heads spinning.
But amid the ups and downs of the ride, I remain hopeful. That good people will outshine the bad. That nefarious orders by evil people; on the ground in real-time will be countered into good by the people. That like any roller-coaster ride, it isn't all doom if you open your eyes - metaphorically and literally. The media thrives on keeping us hooked, fueling fear and emotion, and how easy that it for them with our phones at our hips.
This reminds me that sometimes, if you can, it's important to ignore the noise. Elon who? I'm also reminded of Mr. Rogers quoting his mother, "Look for the helpers" when confronted with frightening news as a child. When I do, I see countless acts of kindness and courage. Right now, it’s a delicate balance between staying informed, taking meaningful action, and stepping back when necessary to preserve peace of mind. 💓
