I Reject Round 2!

[OPINION] (2024) As we face a disheartening deja vu in the political arena as two inadequate politicians once again find their way into our peaceful family dinners, raising our blood pressure, causing division, and inducing a state of helplessness and fear, I'm reminded how ineffective and futile discourse surrounding much of national politics is, especially in these moments. It serves to separate and steal our peace with very minimal benefit.

And I wholeheartedly reject it!

My passions lie with hope, unity, possibility, and peace. And above all, change.

Most people engage in national politics because they care. They want the best for their families, their communities, and the world. But when our focus stays locked on these vast, untouchable national dramas, it’s easy to feel small and insignificant - like we’re shouting into a storm that doesn’t hear us. A large amount of energy is created, yet there’s nowhere for that energy to go. Aside from casting a vote every few years, most of us are left passively watching, waiting, and worrying.

It’s exhausting. It’s disempowering. It’s like being in a toxic relationship that keeps demanding our attention but never gives us peace.

What if, instead, we pulled our energy back home? What if we turned our gaze toward what we can actually touch and shape, like our towns, our neighborhoods, our schools, our small businesses, and our local leaders? Real effective change often begins right there, in the places we can see and feel.

Focusing on the small isn’t selfish. It’s wise. It’s powerful. It’s how change actually happens!

So, let’s stop pouring our energy into walls too tall to climb. Let’s look for the doors that are already open. Let’s put our energy where it can grow something meaningful. Join me?
